Taylor Jr. earned the nickname "Father of the Modern Bourbon Industry" the hard way: born in 1832, he pioneered new mash and sour mash techniques, modernized distillery buildings, and lobbied hard for the Bottled in Bond Act of 1897, the law that first protected consumers from adulterated whiskey. His own distillery, O. F. C., eventually became today's Buffalo Trace after financial troubles forced him to sell it in 1879. Buffalo Trace
